Advanced Lawnmower Simulator began in 2001 as a web label. Started by Cats Against The Bomb, and with the aim of selling CD-Rs at low-cost prices, aiming to cover production and let the music do the talking.

Releases were made available on the web for free download, although most of the time lack of webspace prevented everything from being available.

After a handfull of small scale releases, several things became apparent:

  1. The Dot Com cash had gone, and people weren't going to be splashing out any more free money to musicians (thanks very much peoplesound)
  2. CD-Rs are not as good quality as proper CDs.
  3. The days of carefree unprotected filesharing were drawing to an end when the BPI legal monkeys got their typewriters out.

To cut a long story short, the label went into limbo when it became clear that ALS wouldn't be taking over the world by CD-R.

Cats Against The Bomb, founders of ALS, concentrated on live performance, and selling cheap CD-Rs at gigs.

More recently, with the music charts have started counting downloads, which has changed the world of record releasing irreversibly.

With myspace, youtube and massive corporatisation of social networking, CDs are going the way of vinyl - more of a niche market.

Personal experience of proper CD manfacture and distribution through Digital Vomit has caused the resurrection of the label.

In 2007, Cats Against The Bomb is partnered in the label by DJ Travelcard, promoter of the Jim Robinson Memorial Jukebox Extravaganza.

Our intentions are as follows:

  1. Continue to produce cheap CD-Rs, and make these releases available by the web for free distribution.
  2.  Release high-quality, desirable proper CDs and vinyl at reasonable prices.
  3.  We don't want to rip you off, but we don't want to lose money either.
